TUESDAY RUNDOWN: A BIG CFL DAY AND VEGAS BORN!

The floodgates are open and we had a buffet of CFL talk plus we went to Vegas on Episode #506 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The CFL is back and the schedule is out!, 2) The Golden Knights take Game 1 by a 4-1 score over the Canadiens, 3) The Islanders take a 1-0 lead into Tampa for tonight’s Game 2, 4) The Red Sox clip the Blue Jays 2-1 and Vlady goes 2/4 with a HR, 5) It’s getting good in the NBA Playoffs!, and 6) The home of the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose is now the Canada Life Centre.
  • Toronto Argonauts defensive end Charleston Hughes joined the bunker to preview the CFL season. He said it’s been difficult to train given the uncertainty and maintaining a full-time job but he’ll be ready to go for training camp! (However at the moment he doesn’t know where it is). Charleston is 27 sacks away from #1 all-time in CFL history and feels he’ll break the record. Due to the layoff Chucky says he feels better physically than he has in years however it’s taken a mental toll, particularly due to his split with the Riders. Hughes answered a ton of questions from viewers and stayed for three segments.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win the Jack Adams Trophy as NHL Coach of the Year – Rod Brind’Amour, Dean Evason or Joel Quenneville? At press time, Brind’Amour was way out in front.
  • Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Joe Lozito and Charleston won Tuesday’s award by acclimation.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for Four Seasons Sports Palace we were joined by 3DownNation CFL Insider Justin Dunk who detailed the CFL’s Return To Play. Dunk said things are frantic behind the scenes now getting ready to play, and a lot of hurdles remain, however he feels they’ll get taken care of before August 5. Regarding Monday’s unanimous vote by CFL Governors to play, Justin said Argos President Bill Manning voted in favour of it after being involved in player negotiations and that turned the tide.
  • Friend of the Show and Professional Fan Cameron Hughes joined the show from Las Vegas, one night after the Golden Knights’ series-opening win over Montreal. Cam explained his long-standing relationship with the franchise – almost a residency – and explained how he’s used to fire the crowd up before and during games. The Ottawa product talked about his relationships with Golden Knights players and also expressed how happy he is the CFL is back!
  • The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and CFL fans across the country were eager to discuss the league and had plenty of questions! A viewer from Edmonton complained about the Elks schedule and kickoff times which caused Rod to go off saying, “WE HAVEN’T HAD GAMES IN 600 DAYS AND YOU WANT TO BITCH ABOUT THE SCHEDULE??”
