THURSDAY COMMENTARY: CFL, FLAMES & NFL CHATTER!

We welcomed some of the best analysts in the business on Thursday’s Episode #558 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Blue Jays beat the White Sox 3-1 and Robbie Ray sets a Jays record for strikeouts (14) by a leftie, 2) Is the Alberta Labour Day Classic in jeopardy due to the Elks Covid outbreak?, 3) Week 4 CFL games and odds, 4) Trevor Lawrence is named Jaguars starting QB, 5) Teddy Bridgewater is named Broncos starting QB, and 6) Tuuka Rask says he won’t chase the money to end his career and will likely end up finishing his career with Boston.
  • Sportsnet Flames host Ryan Leslie joined the show for a wide-ranging Calgary NHL chat and he said no one knows if the team and star forward Johnny Gaudreau will get a new contract done before this season. The American forward has one year left on his current deal. Ryan said the Flames haven’t done a ton in free agency – other than adding Stanley Cup champ Blake Coleman from Tampa – and that Flames GM Brad Treliving’s hands are tied, but there’s still time to make some moves. He and Rod also discussed the play of Calgary goalie Jacob Markstrom in his first year with the team.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will lead the NFL in passing in 2021 – Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes? At press time the Chiefs QB was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we unfortunately had to dabble more on the Covid environment in Canadian sports and Rod peaked on a viewer who said the show hosts are scared to talk about anything controversial. RP said he’s not scared of anything, saying “I’ve overcome things in life that would have you crying to your m0mmy!” The simple fact is we’re tired of the arguing and bickering, and are basically over it.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show for an outstanding chat and discussed the announcements this week of Trevor Lawrence winning the #1 job in Jacksonville and Teddy Bridgewater doing the same in Denver. He said this season’s going to be an “eye-opener” for the New Orleans Saints in the post-Drew Brees era, and also wouldn’t discount Dak Prescott leading the NFL in passing because “the Cowboys are always playing from behind”. The former Browns & Packers wide receiver answered a machine gun of NFL questions from viewers.
