Toronto defensive back Robertson Daniel had three of his team’s six interceptions off BC quarterback Vernon Adams on Monday night as the Argonauts picked apart the visiting Lions 45-24 to remain the CFL’s lone unbeaten team. Javon Leake also had a 91-yard punt-return touchdown as Toronto improved to 3-and-0h, while the Lions, who were looking to go 4-0 for the first time since 2007, slipped to 3-1.

Nathan Cayo’s season-high 28 points helped the Montréal Alliance (6-7) get an 99-85 victory over the Winnipeg Sea Bears (8-5), handing the team their second consecutive loss for just the first time this season.

Meanwhile the Edmonton Stingers (6-7) knocked off the Vancouver Bandits (5-7) 92-78 in the second half of a home-and-home Canada Day long weekend series at the Expo Centre.

After losing by 10 points to the Bandits in Vancouver on July 1, the Stingers responded with an efficient shooting performance inside the arch and a team-high 19 points from Aher Uguak.

Canada will play winless Cuba in Houston on Tuesday in a must-win CONCACAF Gold Cup match without star goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Canada Soccer says the goalie returned to Europe with an undisclosed injury so that he can recover ahead of the 2023-24 club season. Borjan was in goal for Canada’s 2-2 draw with Guadeloupe last Tuesday and its 0-0 draw with Guatemala on Saturday. Canada must beat Cuba to advance to the Gold Cup quarterfinals.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Max Domi to a three million dollar (US), one-year contract on Monday. Domi recalls growing up around the Leafs’ home arena while his father, Tie, played with the club for more than a decade. Domi is the latest of several signings by Toronto, which also added winger Tyler Bertuzzi, defenceman John Klingberg and enforcer Ryan Reaves during the weekend.

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, recovering from a knee injury, dropped his first-round match against American lucky loser Michael Mmoh at Wimbledon on Monday. It was a much better day for Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Quebec, who posted her first Wimbledon win after downing Ukraine’s Kateryna Baindl. Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario had his match against Romania’s Radu Albot suspended due to darkness. Play resumes Tuesday.

Harrison Bader hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in the eighth inning and the New York Yankees rallied for a 6-3 victory Monday night over the visiting Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a four-game series. Anthony Volpe scored the tying run in the seventh on a wild pitch by All-Star reliever Yennier Cano before the Yankees completed the comeback ahead of a post-game fireworks show.

Nobody in Major League Baseball has had a first half of the season like Ronald Acuna Junior. Atlanta’s four-time All-Star outfielder made history by becoming the first player to reach 20 home runs, 40 stolen bases and 50 RBIs before the All-Star break. The 25-year-old Acuna is also just the third player to hit 20 homers and steal 40 bases in the first 84 games, joining Rickey Henderson (1990) and Eric Davis (1986). Acuna had a hit and run in leading the Braves to a 4-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night.
